The Cost of Cheap Tea

2007-07-27Consumers may welcome cheap tea prices (tea-news/the-hidden-cost-of-your-cut-price-cuppa.html) but they mean doom to the tea workers on the bottom of the ladder. Closed tea estates have led to numerous deaths, and the fall in worldwide tea prices has led to bankruptcy for many growers, ending the livelihood of the pickers and their families.

Tea is Healthy?

2007-07-27We usually think of tea as a healthy drink, but it is causing health problems in Australia (tea-news/sex-abuse-alcohol-and-tea.html). The Aboriginal cultural practice of feeding tea to babies not even one year old turns out to be the root of many childhood health problems. When tea is given to babies it can cause anemia which leads to further health complicactions. The Australian Medical Association is trying to educate mothers against feeding tea to infants, but the vast area of the Australian outback, coupled with doctor's unwillingness to work in the area keeps the tea tradition strong.

Tea and Insecticide

2007-08-14It seems China isn't the only Asian country grappling with food contamination. The Food and Drug Administration in Korea recently discovered insecticide in green tea products (tea-news/insecticide-found-in-green-tea-products.html) forcing major food distributors to withdraw products and offer refunds. The Korean public's perception of green tea as a healthy product will likely be affected. The thing that should never happen in the food industry actually took place. The most urgent thing is to restore consumer trust.

Nepal tea industry threatened

2007-08-08Nepal tea is similar in quality and taste to Darjeeling, due to the close proximity of these two tea regions. The climate and geography of east Nepa are ideal for tea cultivation, and most of the tea grown in this region is processed as black tea.The activities of tea plantations (tea-news/indefinite-shutdown-cripples-nepals-tea-region.html) in Eastern Nepal are currently being affected by a general work slowdown in support of an independence drive by the Limbus, who are demanding an autonomous state for themselves in eastern Nepal.

GABA Tea

2007-06-10Since the health benefits of tea is in the news lately, we should take a closer look at GABA tea (http://www.allgabatea.com/), one of the secrets of the tea world. This little-known type of tea is specially processed to increase the levels of GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric acid) - an important amino acid responsible for inhibiting neuron activity in the brain. GABA is used as a natural tranquilizer, and apparantly has many health benefits.
