If i refrigerate herbal teas, will they still be effective in terms of health benefits? Let's say i prepare some tea for kidney or liver cleansing. Can i refrigerate them, or do you have to drink them hot for the full effect? That way I could prepare a large pot and drink it iced - I don't really like drinking hot drinks in this hot summer weather. If i can put it in the fridge, it's a better idea for me.

The health benefits of herbal tea do not change if the tea is chilled. I wouldn't keep refridgerated tea for more than 24 - 48 hours, I'm sure the longer you keep the less potent the tea will be. Could you prepare tea, then drink it once it hits room temperature? If not just make iced tea, just don't add sugar!

It is much more important that you prepare the tea the right way according to which herbs you use!

Some teas support boiling, and others like peppermint should be prepared while poring hot water over a tea-filter slowly, but never boil, this would destroy the oils and the taste.

Buy a good book about herbal teas if you are interested in knowing the perfect way to prepare it!

To cool down teas would be safe if it is boiled properly!
But don`t keep it more than 3 days refrigerated!

I know a terapist who freeze the kidney-tea in small ice-cube bags. Like this you always have the right size ready made for your cleanse! It works well!

OK Thanks for those replies. I've been making a batch that I store in the fridge and it's a good solution for me. I make enough to last about 2 days and have something cool to drink on these hot summer days

Iced herbal tea is great for the summer. I just make a big pot and put it in the fridge. It's usually gone in a couple hours.
