I have two books that I can recommend. One of them is called "The Herb Book" by John Lust ND, D.B.M. This book has over 500 of the most popular herbs. It goes into to detail with botanical names, uses, preparations, including teas, tinture, poultice etc. It's got lots of useful information.

Another really good book is "The Herbalist" by Joseph Meyer. I've had this book for years and it was first published in 1918. As well as an extensive section on the herbs themselves it also has sections about using herbs for various purposes such as dying, cosmetics, food coloring, potpourri etc. I don't know if it still in print though.
